We met while out with a group of mutual friends. We had run into each other a couple of times over a few years, but one time as the group moved to different places, Amee left her car behind and needed a ride back to it at the end of the night. Cameron volunteered.
Along the way, Cameron asked if he could take her to dinner sometime. She said yes.
And then waited...and waited...and when they got to her car, she got out and started laughing.
She flippantly said to him, "I said yes, but you never asked for my number, so I guess you'll have to find me" and got into her car and drove away (thinking that he would forget about it and it would be a fun story to tell her friends).
The next night, though, as Amee was closing up her shift at the bar, the security guard walked up the stairs and said, "this guy says he knows you," stepping aside to reveal Cameron coming up the stairs.
Amee asked "What are you doing here?"
Cameron said, "You told me to find you."
What happens when you keep saying yes?
We took it one day at a time and that gradually led to "when I think of the future I see it with you."
Amee told Cameron she wanted a nice ring. Cameron told Amee he hated planning surprises.
We made a deal: Cameron would first buy the ring and then Amee would plan the proposal.
Neither of us wear jewelry, though, so after months of looking and not deciding on a ring, Amee decided to move ahead with a surprise.
In April 2024, Amee and Cameron had planned a camping trip with friends to see the Total Solar Eclipse and to celebrate Cameron's birthday. On the day of the eclipse, we paddled out onto the lake in a tandem kayak to see the sight and as the world got dark and quiet, Amee asked "Marry Me?"
He said yes!
And we eventually found rings :)
